Learning To Ride IV - Assesment Lesson

I have decided to go with City School Of Motoring at Seafield Edinburgh for my training.

They offer a full DAS course from CBT right through to your Theory & Practical test. At £650 it’s a bit pricy, to say the least, but once you break it down it does include all costs:

  • CBT
  • Theory Test
  • Practical Test
  • Bike Hire
  • 5 Full Days Training

It works out as about £18.50 an hour which is not bad considering that I used to pay that for my driving lessons. And there’s more….if you fail your test they will keep training you until you pass! (All you have to pay is the re-sit cost £55.00)

As an introduction they provide a free 1 hour assessment lesson to give you a feel. So I decided to go along for a go on a 125cc and to try and work out dates for the course.

The lesson when really well, I think having ridden Katy’s 650cc really helped get the basics. It was a bit strange riding on a much smaller and less powerful bike. I suddenly realised how much Katy’s bike let me away with, all that torque at low revs means that it’s much easier to ride in 1st and you can get away with murder! But it was fun and I had a go at changing gears, figure of 8s, U turns & emergency stops all in hour.

A really good introduction.

I also booked the dates for the various parts of the course:

  • Tue 30th May :- Theory Test
  • Sun 4th June :- CBT
  • Sun 18th June :- Road Rider Lesson
  • Sat 24th June :- DAS Road Rider Lesson
  • Sun 25th June :- DAS Road Rider Lesson
  • Mon 26th June :- DAS Road Rider Lesson & Practical Test!!!!

So, in theory, by the end of June I will be looking for a bike to buy!
